/// Accomplishments
■ The WVDOT’s Public Private Partnership legislation was successfully utilized on two major corridor expansion projects: the Coalfields Expressway and US 35.
■ The WVDOT is completing the implementation of ITS technology for truck parking facilities along I-81 through dynamic notifications.
■ Innovative financing through Tax-Increment-Financing (TIF) was utilized to construct the new I-79 I/C at Morgantown.
■ The Department has developed a Safety Management System that follows the methodology of the Highway Safety Manual.
■ West Virginia experienced its most significant reduction in highway related fatalities since implementing its SHSP with an 18% reduction in fatalities in 2014.
/// NEW Initiatives
■ WVDOT is implementing its first ever State Transportation Infrastructure Fund (Bank) based on recently passed legislation.
■ The Department is completing its ADA Transition Plan and has formed a working ADA Committee that addresses design, maintenance, and construction issues regarding ADA implementation.
/// Looking Ahead
■ WVDOT is evaluating financing opportunities to complete WV’s portion of the Appalachian Development Highway System.
■ The WVDOT will be conducting an efficiency audit and opportunity scan for potential cost savings and revenue generation to improve its transportation system.
■ The Department is collaborating with local government entities and the WV Legislature on opportunities for local revenue generation.
■ The WVDOT will build upon recent success in visualization and will be developing an interactive Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).
