AT LOUISIANA DOTD, SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE GOAL. Through many advances in technology, DOTD has made traveling in Louisiana safer. We continue to expand our Motor Assistance Patrol service areas, utilize and increase our traffic cameras and message boards. And most importantly, we are continuing to install cable barriers along our interstate system. Additionally, we understand that transportation makes the world go around. The contribution from the trucking industry, ports, rail, aviation and daily travelers help the economy move forward. In Louisiana, all facets of transportation play a big role in our economy and the nation’s. We understand the importance of our role and strive to ensure all modes work fluidly, for efficiency and safety.

■ Redistributed Funding: Each year, the U.S. DOT redistributes federal funding to states that are successful in obligating their full federal highway funding allotment during the fiscal year, which spans from October 1 through September 30. DOTD has obligated all of its federal funding 13 years in a row.

■ DOTD launched its Way to Geaux app which gives real-time traffic updates and also launched a mobile site for 511 to provide traveler information service.

/// NEw Initiatives

■ This fiscal year, we currently plan to let 166 projects, which includes approximately 553 miles of roadway improvements and 38 bridge repair or replacement projects.

■ LDOTD is pursuing new public-private agreements for sponsorship of assets. This is an expansion of the successful public-private agreement with State Farm to sponsor the Motorist Assistance Patrol.

■ The update of the Louisiana Statewide Transportation Plan will be completed in the fall of 2015. This three-year effort engaged numerous public and private stakeholders from across the State. The resulting Plan encompasses all modes of transportation and will guide state investments for the next ten years. A key focus of the Plan is on supporting Louisiana’s long-term economic growth.

/// Looking Ahead

■ LDOTD is completing the first official Freight Plan which will cover all modes of freight movement. The plan will include policies, strategies, recommendations and potential projects to improve the freight transportation network in Louisiana.
